1/ FY25: Indian Listed-Hospitals’ Performance

FY25 Indian Hospitals

You can observe the following:

  1. Indian hospitals:highly profitable at only ~60% occupancy.

  2. Many small to mid-scale Single-specialty hospitals chose to IPO to raise funds.

  3. These small hospitals are based in Tier-2 cities as well.

    • Maple Hospital, Bharuch (GJ), a 25-Bed end-to-end Cardiology hospital raised Rs.4.02Cr in its IPO.(here!)

    • Nephrocare, a Kolkata based, doctor-run, small end-to-end Kidney Hospital chain raised Rs.41.26Cr in its IPO & was over-subscribed by 715X.(here!)

2/ India’s 110m+ Diabetic <> AI in Diabetic Retinopathy | AIIMS

AIIMS <> MadhuNetraAI

Ramnath Prajapati, a 42-year-old tailor from Bareilly in UP, had dismissed his patchy, blurry vision at night as a minor eye problem.

But a simple screening at an AIIMS using MadhuNetraAI (developed using data of 10,000 patients) for diagnosis, revealed he had diabetic retinopathy.(here!)

Similarly, Sunder Pichai’d announced that Google collaborated with Aravind Eye Hospital - India since 2020 to develop an AI technology to early-detect Diabetic Retinopathy, given the 110m+ diabetic population in India.

He also claimed that the same AI can also detect the risk of CVDs (Cardio-Vascular Diseases) 5-years in advance.

3/ Jan-Mar’25: Funding in Healthcare AI

  • Jan-Mar’25: total funding in AI-startups is $3.2B with 60% in Digital Health.

  • There are 11,228 healthcare-specific active AI startups worldwide.

  • Healthcare has been deemed as “the most AI-driven industry in 2025.”

4/ Apollo Hospital <> AI in Hospital

Apollo Hospitals <> AI in Hospitals

  • 3.5% of Apollo’s digital spend has been on AI since 2023.

  • It is planning to free up to 2-3hours of doctors/nurses time daily using AI.

  • Features in focus: Analysis of patients' EMRs | Transcribe doctors' observations | Generate faster discharge summaries.

5/ Healthcare AI Use-Cases

USE-CASE:1 - Prioritising Emergency

At the Sheba Medical Center in Israel, dozens of patients in a pilot in the emergency department interact with an AI medical agent.

Sheba Medical Center, Israel

The agent automatically compiles comprehensive health summaries for doctors, recommends imaging and laboratory tests, and provides clinical decision support—saving time, reducing paperwork, improving diagnostic accuracy, and enhancing the patient experience. This allows doctors to manage multiple patients simultaneously and prioritize those in critical condition.

USE-CASE:2 - AI as a Diagnostic Tool for Aneurysms (bulging artery) to early-detect the risks of Heart Attack

Viz Aneurysm is an artificial intelligence engine created to detect aneurysms from CT-Angiography (CTA) scans.

A total of 963 scans were analyzed, with 70 aneurysms detected total (with a specificity of 96.78% (95% CI 0.95-0.98))

Approx. 51.10% scans were performed on male patients, and our population ranged in age from 23 to 94 years.
